Salomon Ranger Jacket

The Ranger is a classic non-membrane softshell hiking jacket that’s stretchier and slightly lighter than the Fjern Grenser. Because there’s no windproof membrane, it’s not quite as protective as the jackets using Gore fabrics, but the trade-off is better breathability and we found it super comfortable for general walking and hiking use. It has some rain resistance, but when things get wetter you need to add a waterproof shell after a few minutes. As ever it’s something of a trade-off between ultimate protection and comfort. The cut is neat and athletic and works nicely if you’re layering it under another jacket. Hand-pockets also double as vents and there’s a phone-friendly chest one too. Finally the hood fits well over a bare or beanie clad head though isn’t designed to be worn with a helmet. There’s a final touch of luxury from the soft and brushed interior finish.

Really nice, all-round outdoors jacket that just gets on with things with minimum fuss.
