Pearl Izumi X-ALP Flow Shoes

There’s definitely no issue with wearing trainers in town but, if you’re riding your bike any distance, you want a shoe with a bit more stiffness and grip for your pedals. These flat pedal MTB shoes, with their blue suede look uppers and orange detailing, have a real retro cool aesthetic. They’re comfy, both for pedalling and walking, and, although stiff, there’s enough flex for arduous hike-a-bikes or pounding the streets. The soft rubber outsoles provide a rock solid platform when used with flat pedals and, when you’re off the bike, open chevron shaped lugs in toe and heel, grip tenaciously in all but the muddiest conditions. If you really like to push the envelope on the bike, the EVA midsole apparently has excellent shock absorption for hard jumps and, I’m guessing, on the dance floor too. But, as I’m neither a jumper or a dancer, you’ll have to out that claim to the test!

Cool looking shoes for gnarly downhill days on the mountain bike or big nights on the town.
