Mountain Hardwear Alpine Lite 50
Whereas the Trion Spine is a trekking pack with alpine pretensions, the Alpine Lite 50 is an uncompromising, pure mountaineering pack with no frills or favour offered. The combination of super light weight and impressive robustness is down to the – white – Dyneema fabric, which also helps explain the hefty price tag. It’s used for the back panel too for snow shedding and abrasion resistance. Axe, ski, rope and crampon holders come as stock as do removable hip-belt and lid. As a concession, there’s a single belt-pocket and two, zipped side ones that don’t compromise the thrutch-friendly narrow profile. The back system is basic, but also super stable, body-hugging, unrestrictive and not uncomfortable. Discomfort increases with the magnitude of your load, but if you’re in the market for a pack like this, comfort won’t be high on your list of priorities. For non-mountaineering use, it’s complete overkill.
Utterly uncompromising mountaineering pack that’s light, tough and effective. Are you?
