Birzman RG Apogee Mini Pump

If I’m out riding and puncture, I’ll tend to opt for the convenience of a CO2 cartridge but, as they’re not always reliable and you’re limited as to how many you can carry, I like the reassurance of a decent mini-pump in my jersey pocket. The Birzman’s CNC finished aluminium body looks and feels good and classier than its very affordable price. At 119g and 222mm, it isn’t overly weighty or bulky and fits easily in a jersey pocket. In use the chuck head fits securely, easily and, as it doesn’t screw onto the valve, won’t accidentally remove the core. The silicone hose makes getting a good pumping angle easier and means you’re less likely to damage than valve than when using a pump that attaches directly. Also, it has an in-line pressure gauge which, testing against a digital gauge, proved surprisingly accurate. Taking 270 strokes to get 25mm tyres up to 80PSI is a workout but isn’t at all bad for a mini pump and, even at that pressure, doesn’t require too much force.

Great value and top performing road mini pump that was obviously designed by a cyclist.
