Berghaus Fast Hike 45

The lightest pack tested by some way and, although I was expecting the pay-off to be instant discomfort and pooper load carrying ability, I was pleasantly surprised. The good news is that as long as you keep the load on the light side – sub 10kg works – the Fast Hike is amazingly comfortable thanks to wide, load-spreading, sweat-wicking straps and hip-belt and a minimal but very effective internal frame. It works best if you have proper lightweight backpacking kit, shelter and sleeping bag in particular, so it’s best seen as part of a lightweight system. The dry-bag type roll-top closure makes getting to packed-away kit a little fiddly, but there are three huge stuff pockets for waterproofs, maps and the like plus two hip ones. Weight loons can strip it lighter still, but frankly there’s no real point.

A properly lightweight pack that carries spectacularly well as long as you don’t overload it.
